Proud Art Teacher moment! A student of mine has really started to love painting in his free time. He took one of his paintings to the local Rochester shop @BeanAndLeafCafe and they put it up with all the other local Artists work! @MBEPTA @ThinkMBE @BergsEyeView Happy Holidays!!

(3/4) On each night, the family gathers and a child lights one of the candles on the Kinara (candleholder). Then, one of the seven principles, or Nguzo Saba in Swahili, is discussed. The principles are values of African culture that build and reinforce community. @ThinkMBE

(1/4) Our spotlight celebration today is Kwanzaa! Kwanzaa is celebrated December 26 through January 1. It is a holiday to commemorate African heritage. The name Kwanzaa comes from the phrase “matunda ya kwanza,” which means “first fruits” in Swahili. @ThinkMBE

(4/4) In France, a delicious "kings' cake" known as la galette des rois is baked. Bakers hide a coin, jewel, or little toy inside it. There are so many ways that people across the world celebrate this holiday! #shareyourcelebrationMBE so we can celebrate "together"! @ThinkMBE

(3/4) Children in Spain & Latin America leave their shoes by the door of their house so the three kings can leave them presents. In Mexico, bakers make a "rosca del rey", a sweet bread representing a King's crown that is a mile long and people line the streets to get a slice!

(3/3) Many Christians use "Advent" to prepare themselves to celebrate the joy of Christmas. Advent normally lasts for four Sundays and weeks before Christmas, and candles are lit on a wreath, 1 each week, to count down. Don't forget to #showyourcelebrationMBE @ThinkMBE

(2/3) Around the world, families decorate the tree & home with bright lights, wreaths, candles, holly, mistletoe, & ornaments. On Christmas Eve, many people go to church to sing and celebrate, & Santa comes from the North Pole to deliver gifts around the world. @ThinkMBE

(1/3) Today our spotlight is on Christmas. Christmas was traditionally a Christian festival celebrating the birth of Jesus, but in the early 20th century, it also became a secular family holiday, observed by Christians and non-Christians alike. @ThinkMBE

(2/3) St. Lucia day is a celebration of light at the darkest time of the year. There are parades with luminaries, stars, & candles. Some children dress up as St. Lucia in long white robes and a wreath of candles on their head (battery powered candles are common!) @ThinkMBE
