Happy Maryland Day! Today marks the 392nd anniversary of the landing of the Ark and Dove in 1634 and the arrival of the first European settlers in Maryland. Maryland became the 7th state to join the union in 1788. The first Maryland State Fair was held in 1879 in Timonium with a brief interruption when the fairground was used as a WWII U.S. Army vehicle depot. Mark your calendars for the three big weekends of the 145th Maryland State Fair when you can visit the museum to learn more about the Fair’s fascinating history from August 27-30; September 3-7; and September 10-13. marylandstatefair.com

The Maryland State Fair & Agricultural Society, Inc. is currently seeking 4-year college, postsecondary college, and trade school applicants for the F. Grove Miller Maryland State Fair Memorial Scholarships and the Marlin K. Hoff Maryland State Fair Memorial Scholarship. Additionally, youth applicants pursuing a postsecondary degree in pre-veterinary medicine or large animal veterinary medicine are being sought for the new Kinsley Construction Maryland State Fair Veterinary Scholarship. Scholarship rules and applications may be obtained at marylandstatefair.com/scholarships. Application Deadline is June 1, 2025.
