Oh that Clayface teaser trailer was fantastic, by the way. Of course I kept my expectations tamed once I saw the runtime of just a minute long, but it even exceeded THOSE expectations! Tom Rhys Harries as Matt Hagen looks excellent! Gorgeous enough to believe that he’d be a successful movie star who’s loss of his face is nothing short of a tragedy that he’s unraveling in real time, yet also seems capable of a terrifying amount of rage brewing beneath the surface which allows you to feel both pity and fear for him. I expect an intimate performance, and I don’t think I’m gonna be disappointed at all. The VISUALS is what’s blowing me away the most, though! The great thing about the DCU is that it’s still new and because of that it doesn’t necessarily have a trademark style yet (as long as Gunn holds himself back from releasing 3 projects in a row again lol), meaning this universe can look and feel however the filmmaker wants. There’s actual choices being made with the camera and lighting to give it a sense of texture and claustrophobia as well as a surprising amount of campiness with the hammers! This feels like an independent passion project that just so happens to be set in a superhero universe, and I LOVE that!! If this film proves successful, which I’m now more confident than I was yesterday that it will? This could have MAJOR implications for the kind of cinematic universe storytelling that the DCU is going for- especially with one of its major characters who has yet to make his cinematic debut 👀 I’m in!!
