Got home from the @UAB_CNC retreat to find I had missed this promotion letter in my inbox over the past few days. Fitting for the "serious" lab retreat photo we took this year. Sincere thanks to the awesome scientists in the lab as well as many mentors that made this possible!

Beyond excited to receive the Notice of Award for my R16 grant from NIDA! This grant will provide four years of funding to my lab and numerous opportunities for students to engage in impactful research. Grateful for all the support that got me here! 🙏🏻

A simple thread here cannot do justice to the enormous role Klaus played in my development from undergraduate to Assistant Professor, and I will be forever grateful to him. Rest in peace.

He always had a big smile and heavy pat on the back ready for me when we crossed paths at conferences. His work heavily influenced my own scientific curiosities and lines of research, and his guidance helped steer my academic career.

I'm deeply saddened to hear of Klaus' passing. His impacts on the fields of behavioral pharmacology, psychopharmacology, and neuroscience are well known. But I personally owe a great deal to him, and would not be where I am today without his mentorship. More below.

With yesterday’s Board of Trustees vote, it’s official: I’ll be a full Professor on Sept 1! It’s an individual promotion, but I’m only here because of the hard work and generosity of so many others: lab members, colleagues, mentors, friends, and family. But mostly my wife. 😁
