Gerst: Metallic heat shield tiles "didn't work so well" on the last Starship test flight.

English

@DavidEn24539628 @KenKirtland17 We weren’t talking about starship, but since you brought it up. Starship isn’t flying people, emphasis on human lives, to a multi billion dollar space station.
English

@KenKirtland17 Also worth remembering that Starship has yet to have a clean orbital flight without losing multiple engines.
English

@SilvanisKillian @ucindel @peterrhague @DJSnM Your fault for thinking an spaceflight project would meet a deadline… lol
English

@ucindel @peterrhague @DJSnM Pardon me for taking spacex at its word that it would be human ready in 2022
And yet here we are

The future space station projects which will replace the ISS will all be built differently from the ISS. The shuttle could carry components up and assemble the station, but station modules being built today all need their own propulsion, power, attitude control & guidance so they can either be self reliant, or, maneuver to their final destination.
That’s how the soviet stations were built, and that’s how China’s station was built. Until there’s a space tug that can deliver dumb station modules after reaching orbit the ISS is going to be unique in this respect.

@WLR_2678 @dsshhh114 Very cool, hope we get to see it in action soon
English

@MaxQRockets @dsshhh114 Patents suggest that the ropes will be waiting at quite some distance then tighten in once the booster is sufficiently close and final trajectory though the net is certain. A tolerance likely comparable to leg landing and the ropes can also help to centre the booster once landed.

@Oldscho20031321 @Teslaconomics @elonmusk Did they make it to orbit? No.
It’s a 3rd attempt at an orbital flight. Yes they learned, but the system failed to get to orbit and that’s okay
English

@Teslaconomics @elonmusk It's not a 3rd 'attempt'... The first two weren't failures. These are all learning exercises...

We are thrilled that Intuitive Machine's lunar lander and Embry-Riddle's EagleCam landed on the moon -- intact! Congratulations to all involved! #GoERAU #ERAUToTheMoon

@thesheetztweetz Do you think the X is a tribute to, or an attempt to poke fun at Space x or just an accident?

@SX_Falcon_5 @ValsAerospace I would agree with this, but at the same time, isn’t how this entire program has gone? I’m finding hard to be surprised lately, lol
English

@ValsAerospace At this point I’m wondering if B7 and S24 were even originally intended to fly, or if they were pathfinders forced into flight. It’s very clear that B9 and S27 are manufactured to a far higher standard.
English

check out those tiles, god damn. Infinitely better. to those who said SN24’s heat shield would’ve survived needs to take a look at when they ACTUALLY try making a heat shield. the difference is incredible.

For those who have been skeptical about Starships tiles (myself included), check out that nosecone!

Defending SpaceX employees, in no way slandering Elon, (who yes, has made significant contributions), and then I get this… I’m tired of you internet 😒

@MaxQRockets @MihulkaS @Cmdr_Hadfield Has he ever said that he singlehandedly built SpaceX rockets? Credit should be given to him for the financial sacrifice, dedication and vision. He sourced and recruited the best team after doing the early R&D. Read about his trial and mockery at the hands of Roscosmos!
English

@MihulkaS @Cmdr_Hadfield And he didn’t single-handedly build the rocket. 1,000s of people contributed to it for hours and hours of their day. Get out of your convoluted head man
English

@Cmdr_Hadfield It's not about success or failure. musk does not deserve sympathy.
English

For those who feel @SpaceX's Starship test flight didn't go well, here are the very first flights of the F-14 and F-16. The test pilots survived.
