34 years ago, at 24 years old, I took the biggest swing of my career, one of the big swings in comic book history and launched Youngblood and put Image Comics on the map. Youngblood #1 sold one million copies with one single cover, we never looked back🔥 This will never not be the first Image Comic. The storm that followed cleared a path for all creators that followed. Todd McFarlane, Erik Larsen, Jim Lee, Marc Silvestri, Whilce Portacio, Jim Valentino, and myself left Marvel and started Image Comics and the rest is legacy!! Youngblood 5/99 is out next week and issue 100 is on the way!

From 2014-2020, no TV show beat "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." for storytelling, superhero action, and plotting genius. For 7 seasons they delivered week after week...but then something became very noticeable: ONLY THE FEMALE TEAM MEMBERS WERE ALLOWED TO HAVE POWERS. At the beginning, everyone was human and normal, but as the show evolved, female team members started being enhanced: Daisy/Quake gets earth-shaking powers. Yo-Yo gets super-speed and cybernetic arms that give her super strength. Melinda May/The Cavalry gets temporary superhuman strength from various devices. Meanwhile Coulson, Fitz, Mack remain just weak guys with brains, guns, and emotional support — but no powers. And if one ever did get a power, it was a one-episode or seperate arc thing only. Ditto with superpowered males who fought alongside the team but ultimately declined to join — or were killed off: Lincoln Campbell (electricity powers) helped the team, even joined the Secret Warriors for a bit… then sacrificed himself in a heroic but permanent exit. Robbie Reyes/Ghost Rider flamed in for a season… then drove off into the sunset and never became a full member. Lash (Andrew Garner) transformed into a powerful Inhuman monster with energy blasts and the ability to judge/kill other Inhumans… but he was written as unstable and ultimately taken out. Deathlok (Mike Peterson) got super strength and cybernetic upgrades early on and kept returning as an ally… but stayed on the fringes, never locking in as core team. Calvin Zabo (Mr. Hyde) had massive strength and rage, but ended up mind-wiped and sidelined rather than joining. It went on like that for 7 seasons! This was one of the early salvos fired by the female empowerment movement. So while I eagerly watched every episode of the show, the gender politics totally detracted from my enjoyment of it. Did anyone else notice this trend?
