Winterspell is out in 2 days time, so we're back this week with a special 0th issue of the new meta report! The floodgates opened for anyone to begin testing online as of last Friday, so we got a healthy first batch of games to give some insight into what decks people are testing. It probably shouldn't surprise anyone that 🔵🟣 is getting good test numbers, it was the recipient of many new tools that are worth exploring. People are clearly also excited to test 🔵🟡, which appears as the second most tested deck for what is probably the first time ever. You've almost certainly seen some screenshots of 🟢🟡 on the timeline showing off some of the new ideas people are looking at, and it comes in at a respectable third. While those 3 ink pairs stand a little ahead of the others, this next set of 9 are come in with strong levels of interest. 🟡⚪️, 🔵⚪️, and 🟣⚪️ shouldn't surprise anyone, even if AS took a bit of a break in set 10. 🟢🟣, 🟡🟣, 🔴🟣, and 🟢🔵 are all on the lower end of this section, with the most notable callout being GB near the bottom. Early reports from GB players have been filled with dispair and outrage over the strength of Grandmother Willow, but they'll likely settle down in time and find a solid spot back in the top decks once paper play begins, having such a solid gameplan into all of the other notable decks outside of GY. The most notable callouts of this middle section are solid figures for 🔴🟡 and 🔴🔵, both ink pairs with strong followings of players who would love to see them return. Unfortunately the reported win rates for both of them suggests there's a lot of work to do in order to find the right list for either, if they exists. Which leaves us with the bottom of the barrel. Not even cards from Winterspell seem to have injected much life into 🔴⚪️, 🔴🟢, or 🟢⚪️, the first two having the lowest reported win rates of any ink pairs. Speaking of win rates, BP, PS, and YP are head and shoulders above the rest, but this is absolutely the expected outcome during this part of pre-release testing, where these decks get to farm test piles with their consistent and proactive gameplans. I would caution against reading too much into these figures, but to look at them more as likely trends in which decks are the most developed and where they are likely to settle. Most of the decks near to 50% are likely going to be solid decks with a spot in the meta. The decks with winrates closer to 40% or less have the most to prove if they're going to be viable or not. GB is likely a bit of an outlier here, and will likely return to a positive win rate soon, unless some of the new cards in BP or BY have done something to significantly alter this matchup. Tune in next week for the first proper meta report of set 11, where we'll hopefully have some early reports of paper tournaments that are taking place this weekend!
