DA leaders sound like average Americans when in comes to geopolitics: simplistic, chronically ignorant & plebeian. You could swear they live in Arkansas! Most tragically is how they defer their entire thinking on geopolitics to Euro-America: a complete zombification! Sad story! The truth on this is not their concern, their concern is delegitimising South Africa’s moral authority to make the correct assertion that Israel is committing genocide in Palestine. To do this, they must create and reinforce a myth of genocide in SA, and therefore subvert the call made by SA to punish Israel for its war crimes. It is for this reason that Fikile Mbalula and the ANC are either dishonest or idiotic to claim that there is anything tactical about deploying Roelf Meyer as an ambassador to the USA. It is a fundamental misdiagnosis of the US-SA deteriorating relationship. The USA believes there is a white genocide in SA just as much as it believed there were weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, or a nuclear threat from Iran. It is manufactured nonsense designed to rationalise a political agenda. You could send God himself to try and stabilise relations with the US and it would not work because they have made a decision to peddle a lie which serves a geo-political purpose. That lie and that posture will outlive Trump as long as SA is hostile to Israel. It is astounding that people who led the once revolutionary ANC Youth League are trying to claim the deployment of Roelf Meyer as a tactical victory. This is not even a complex ideological question, it is simple geo-politics. If we were to be ideological about it however, sending the former Apartheid Minister of Defence to fix a relationship with a racist right-wing US-President is not tactical, it is an unwitting consolidation of fascism under the guise of diplomacy. Fikile Mbalula lacks the necessary courage I thought he possessed, and he is leading an electoral and political decline of the ANC. A former Youth League President drawn from the same cloth as Mokaba would have on principle rejected Roelf Meyer’s deployment, on the anniversary of Chris Hani’s assassination. I hold no brief for the SACP, but disassociating with this degenerate manifestation of the ANC is now a matter of integrity.
