We are happy to report that we increased our hiring by more than 50% in 2025 when compared to 2024. Sheriff Nicole Morrisey O’Donnell credited the success to county budget investments and modernized hiring practices. In 2025, MCSO hired 114 employees. This marks the first time since 2022 that new hires exceeded separations. This positive update comes at a time when Multnomah County’s public safety system is seeing increased demands. As law enforcement agencies throughout the county increase their public safety initiatives, jail bookings have increased. In February 2026, MCSO processed 1,721 standard jail bookings, up 22% from February 2025. mcso.us/news-informati… To learn more about job openings, visit mcso.us/careers.

TriMet Transit Police and the Metropolitan Explosive Disposal Unit have determined a suspicious object found in possession of a 42-year-old man did not contain any energized or explosive materials. The coordinated efforts of responding law enforcement helped to ensure a safe and controlled environment. Each step taken during this investigation was guided by training and a shared commitment to public safety. MCSO thanks PPB, MEDU, and TriMet for their assistance with this investigation. mcso.us/news-informati…

A 20-year-old woman is accused of driving while impaired and crashing into a Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office deputy’s patrol SUV. The crash occurred during a DUII patrol mission conducted in honor of two MCSO reserve deputies who were killed in 1993 by an impaired driver. We thank @ORStatePolice, @GreshamPolice, and TriMet Transit Police Department for their assistance and partnership. mcso.us/news-informati…

As part of ongoing efforts to increase public safety in North Portland and along transit corridors, TriMet’s Transit Police Division, led by our agency, coordinated a high-visibility enforcement mission. High-visibility enforcement, whether through uniformed presence, foot and bicycle patrols, or a strong presence at major events – deters potential crime and increases safety for neighbors as well as TriMet riders and staff. mcso.us/news-informati…

We are grateful both officers are expected to recover from their injuries. Sheriff Morrisey O’Donnell has offered our agency’s full support to PPB in any way needed. This incident is another reminder of the inherent risks we as law enforcement accept as we serve our community.

If you look around our roll calls, you’ll see a map of different career paths. Some of our deputies are continuing a family legacy that spans generations, like Deputy Yates here. Others have transitioned from the military, like Deputy Forsberg. Some are just starting out from school or other jobs, while others have been working the road for years. Despite these different paths, we all arrived at the same purpose and truth. This job – being a deputy sheriff in Multnomah County -- is about helping people. The "service" we provide can look different than it does in the movies. In our job, we get the opportunity to help people in need. That’s exactly what happened the other day when Deputy Yates and Deputy Forsberg helped a community member in Fairview change a flat tire. Every time our deputies step out of their patrol car, they are fulfilling the promise they made the day they were sworn in. Thank you, Deputy Yates and Deputy Forsberg for your exemplary public service…and Deputy Kelsey for snapping the photo!

As a lateral hire from the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Roach had his rural policing instincts kick in yesterday when he saw a 1,200-pound cow being pursued by a @SandyPDOregon officer. Deputy Roach joined the efforts to *steer* the situation toward safety and prevent any further *moo-ving* violations. In *udder* seriousness (sorry, we couldn’t help ourselves) … great work, Deputy Roach, on using those Clackamas roots to keep our neighbors and roads safe. This is just another reminder that no matter the time or place, our deputies are always ready to step in and help our partner agencies and the communities law enforcement serve.

We are proudly announcing the conclusion of the 2025 Fill the Cruiser Toy Drive, which served 1,112 children from 280 families, marking one of our most successful toy drives to date. The Fill the Cruiser Toy Drive is an annual effort that brings together deputies, community partners, and local families to ensure children across East Multnomah County experience a joyful holiday season. Over the past several weeks, MCSO, in collaboration with its contract cities, collected hundreds of new, unwrapped toys at city hall locations in Fairview, Wood Village, Maywood Park, and Troutdale. Additionally, deputies and volunteers staffed tables at local retail locations where they received numerous donations. The MCSO Community Events Team coordinated the drive. Organizers distributed the donated toys during a toy giveaway event held on Saturday, December 13, 2025. Families living throughout East Multnomah County were invited to the church to select gifts for their children, which corrections and law enforcement deputies and volunteers wrapped on site.
