Did they truly convince themselves that Bobi Wine was hiding inside that house? The very idea is irrational. What unfolded was not an operation—it was a spectacle. And it drags this country back to the darkest stories our parents told us. My own mother would leave the home where she had sought refuge every night for 14 nights and head to a nearby bush with me, a one‑year‑old child because armed men who had just seized power from Amin would raid homes in the night and terrorize or/and rape unmarried women. That is the memory this moment evokes. I have criticized Bobi Wine many times, but today the focus is not on him. It is on the women and children left inside that home. I cannot help but see Barbie Kyagulanyi in the same impossible position my mother once faced: a woman surrounded by uncertainty, responsible for protecting her children and other vulnerable people while armed men force their way into her home. There is no justification—none—for storming a residence which has vulnerable civilians. It is not bravery. It is not professionalism. It is a collapse of judgment. It exposes a level of institutional weakness that should concern anyone who cares about national stability. If this is what passes for intelligence work, then the bar has fallen dangerously low. What exactly did they expect to find? It is doubtful Barbie Kyagulanyi even knows her husband’s precise movements. And even if she did once, it is naïve to imagine he would remain in one location under these circumstances. He is almost certainly moving constantly, as any rational person in his position would. This kind of heavy‑handed intrusion does not neutralize Kyagulanyi. It amplifies him. It hands him moral authority. It reinforces his narrative. And it exposes the state—not the man they are chasing—as the one acting out of fear.
