FROM FB: URGENT💔💔💔Surrendering a pet is never an easy choice. But for Kane's owner, answering the call to military deployment meant making the heartbreaking choice to ensure Kane would be safe and cared for while they serve. They tried everything, but no one could take him. So on the last day before deployment, Kane was carried into the shelter because he was too scared to walk. His owner even had to help with intake to make it easier on Kane. Fast forward over two weeks and Kane is barely eating because his anxiety is so severe. I've taken him out three times and he warming up, but he still looks like he doesn't understand this place. Let's help out someone trying to do the right thing serving our country by getting Kane in a long term foster or adoptive home. Dallas, Texas – Turkessa Blackmon in court as a judge considers removing her electronic monitor. On Oct. 11, 2025, neighbors recorded her allegedly hitting Rocky the stray with a metal bat as many as 15 times after reportedly spraying him with bug spray. Rocky later went missing, then was found and adopted. Blackmon faces a 3rd-degree felony, punishable by 2–10 years. (Original Air Date: Oct. 2025)

Nutmeg had owners, but like many pet dogs in Sri Lanka, he was shown little affection and kept on a tight chain. The chain was so restrictive that it caused a horrific wound around his neck. Left untreated, it worsened, flystrike set in, maggots infested the injury, and his condition quickly became life-threatening.
This is how he arrived at the sanctuary in 2023-weak, in pain, and depressed.
But that wasn’t the end of his story.
With care, patience, and treatments, Nutmeg began to heal. The despair in his eyes slowly faded, replaced by something he had likely never known before- love and kindness.
Today, Nutmeg is unrecognisable from the dog who first came to us. He never went back to his abusive owners and stayed with us. He is a handsome, happy, and much-loved character at the sanctuary.
His story didn’t start with love, but in the end, he found it with us.
