The United Arab Emirates has officially announced its first-ever participation in the World Transplant Games Federation (WTG), to be held in Dresden, Germany in August 2025. The #UAE national team includes both organ donors and recipients, who will compete under the name "#Hayat," the country’s national program for organ and tissue donation and transplantation. This historic participation follows the UAE’s membership in the World Transplant Games Federation (WTGF) in 2024. The federation is a global initiative that promotes health, physical activity and celebrates life after transplantation. The Games are the largest global sporting event for transplant athletes, donor families, and living donors, showcasing stories of resilience, courage, and vitality from individuals who have received the gift of life. Dr. Ali Al Obaidli, Chair of the UAE National Transplant Committee, stated: “Global statistics show that only 10% of patients in need of organ transplants actually receive them. We need more #initiatives that increase the number of donors by investing in systems and building integrated models within the #healthcare sector and relevant institutions—empowering the community to exercise their right to donate and save lives.” He added, “The Hayat Program is the result of collaborative efforts between global and local #stakeholders, as well as public and private institutions, to achieve a noble humanitarian goal: to save lives and spread hope across communities within the UAE and the region.” Dr. Georges Pascal Haber, CEO of Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, added: “The #UAE’s participation in these Games reflects its belief in the power of organ donation to transform lives. At Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, #we are proud to be part of a national #healthcare ecosystem delivering world-class post-transplant care. These #athletes are ambassadors of hope—they embody our mission to advance healthcare and research to preserve life. Their journeys showcase medical innovation, compassionate care, and the boundless potential the #UAE offers. We are honored to support this historic moment and reaffirm our commitment to transplantation and healthcare in the region.” The #UAE team is more than just a group of #athletes—they are living proof that life after #transplantation is not just survival but thriving and giving back. Each of their stories reflects #determination, #medical innovation, and the power of human #generosity. Maya Samaan PR Account Director.

This is what security sector reform in #Sudan looks like. It was never going to be decided by rational adults sitting around a conference table exchanging drafts of legal documents. That's not who these people are. They decide everything by the gun. Because they are warlords on one side and mafioso on the other. Can this be stopped? Yes, but a tactical pause will not change the strategic nature of the threat faced by both sides. The statements from both Burhan and Hemedti today show their true feelings about the other and their respective institutions, removed from the varnish of PR operatives and diplomatic niceties. Only now are things real. I dont condone violence and fear for my friends and everyone likely to be caught up in this fighting. But I worry as much about an artificial peace imposed by the international community as a victory by one side. This fight has been building for years and while I dont think it was the desired outcome for the majority of either side, it was for the hardline, former regime elements who potentially benefit the most from this outbreak of violence: a chance to rid themselves of the RSF and re-consolidate their control over the SAF and the State. My question is whether Burhan is being led by these elements or leading them? Too many unknowns to speculate, so I wont. Hoping cooler heads will prevail, but not expecting it yet. Both sides are satisfying their bloodlust. They are doing what they know and what they love. God be with the Sudanese. nytimes.com/2023/04/15/wor…
