@AquaticFlapper @electrolysis_0 The sea lion body plan is a pretty elegant solution, instead of using a tail for propulsion it’s the hindlimbs fused into a single fin like structure that allows for a fair degree of flexibility the spine can’t replicate, pretty good for the classic shoreline mermaids on beaches.

@electrolysis_0 Mammalian mermaids are also kind of weird because a a whales tail is actually pretty small. A tail in a vertebrate is past the anus. The mermaid in the picture has two pelvic areas.

I think mermaid having whale-like tail is really nice touch. If the creator considered mermaid is more closer to human than a fish, then mermaid will have similar structure to sea mammals. For a person who loves biology, I really like when artists do this!
