In any future conflict scenario involving India and Pakistan, these same sea lines of communication could become contested. Pakistan’s geographic position along the Arabian Sea gives it proximity to key shipping routes, which could pose risks to commercial traffic under wartime conditions. However, the ability to disrupt or blockade such routes would depend on multiple factors, including naval capabilities, air superiority, and broader international involvement. More broadly, the Indian Ocean remains one of the most critical arteries of global trade, with a large share of the world’s oil shipments passing through it.
