Hello everyone! It’s been a while. My growing kiddos have needed lots of extra love and attention lately, which has been keeping me from posting! Today was supposed to be the first day of open submissions, but unfortunately, I can’t publish another issue of Parakeet this year :(

Happy summer, everyone ☀️ As I’m sure you’ve seen, we’ve been silent these past few months. I’ve notified the team and folks who submitted quietly, but I need to I put the magazines on hold for now. My focus needs to be on family in this season of life. The plan

I’m already severely behind in the other magazines, and I have no idea how I can work on a third with the limited free time I have right now. I’m hoping to reopen Parakeet in the future and continue publishing work for young animal lovers. Thank you all for your kindness and

@lozzakidwriting @librariantracie @moses_brian Wasps are part of nature for a reason! If we treat them with respect and seek to understand them, we can cohabitate peacefully (speaking as someone who keeps finding wasps in her house these days 😂)

I love this comparison of frog eggs to tapioca! Mark Stewart is such a talented poet with his lively diction and vivid imagery. Check out his poem "Tadpole Tap, Tap, Tapioca"!

(I'm snuggling with one of my black cats while writing this). Issue 3 opens with a poem that I connected with immediately. Goldie beautifully captures the magic of discovering your beloved pet at peace, and the quiet way they invite you to join them
