THEY GROW UP TOO FAST! Our chicks are enjoying their last day at the library today. Over 100 people came to their story time at Central Library today. Tomorrow they’re off to live on one of our librarian’s farm. Thanks for watching them hatch and grow with us these past few weeks. 🐣🐓🚜 #pwplibraries #publiclibrary #library

Rosanne: The BEST book with all three of these elements is "House of Salt and Sorrows” by Erin A. Craig In a manor by the sea, twelve sisters are cursed., Retelling of the 12 dancing Princesses with a romance and fantasy element and (DEMONS?!). “The House of Roots and Ruin” is an arranged marriage retelling of "Bluebeard" but it gave me all the Edgar Allen Poe vibes. "Play Nice" by Rachel Harrison ticks all those boxes too. Sister and family dynamic, romance, and also DEMONS HAUNTING MY HOUSE. #askalibrarian

Heather: I’m excited for Wonder Wanders to start back up on Saturdays at 10:30, a fun story time hike around Independent Hill's story trail! On April 25th, we have our upcoming Leatherworking 101: The Saddle Stitch, which I think will be a lot of fun! I'm also excited to attend the new book club, the Lore and Lattes Society on second Tuesdays at 7:00 at Manassas Paris Baguette. I haven't read The Hobbit in years, and it will be fun to revisit and discuss the book! #askalibrarian

Rosanne: Absolutely Non-Fiction recs, "I'm Glad my Mom Died" by Jeanette McCurdy, if you ever wanted to know more about the underbelly of the dark side of growing up in the Nickelodeon shadow AND a read-alike to the story of Gypsy Rose-Blanchard this is your book. Also "Radium Girls: The Dark Story of America's Shining Women” by Kate Moore. #askalibrarian

Heather: I haven't had a chance to read them, but Ann Shen has two books I've heard are fantastic about women's history: “Bad Girls Throughout History: 100 Remarkable Women Who Changed the World” and, more on the mythical side, “Legendary Ladies: 50 Goddesses to Empower and Inspire You.” As mentioned before, Madame President by Helene Cooper and “This Child Will Be Great” by Sirleaf herself both talk about the first female president of Africa and the former has been a great read thus far! I always recommend “Know My Name” by Chanel Miller. That's recent history, but covers such an important topic. #askalibrarian

Rosanne: The most recent book I read that made me feel that way was "Maeve Fly" by CJ Leede, not that it went places I couldn't follow but just because of the many twists and turns the antagonists' brain took you on during their escapades. I can't say too much without any spoilers but if you've seen or read "American Psycho" by Bret Easton Ellis this is the feminine version. The last book I read with "a lot of twists, turns, and an ever-expanding world, plot, and list of characters." was “The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle” by Stuart Turton which read like an RPG with adventure where you go through the book from the perspective of different characters trying to unravel the mystery of the main characters' "death"? #askalibrarian

It’s March Madness! Which book had you thinking “wow this plot is totally mad,” as in there was a lot going on. #askalibrarian

Heather: The most recently released book of Matt Dinniman's series, “This Inevitable Ruin” has a lot of twists, turns, and an ever-expanding world, plot, and list of characters. For starting as a dungeon crawler book, it definitely seeps into a lot of unexpected territory! #askalibrarian

Rosanne: I am on a true crime kick (of course) so I'm currently listening to "Unspeakable Acts: True Tales of Crime, Murder, Deceit, and Obsession – A Powerful Contemporary Anthology of Women Journalists A curated collection of 13 contemporary true crime stories from leading journalists, exploring real cases of murder, deceit, and obsession. Not bad that it's also a book celebrating women for women's history month. #askalibrarian

Heather: I'm currently reading “Madame President” by Helene Cooper, a deep dive into the end of Liberia's Second Civil war and discussion on the first female president in Africa. I also just restarted “Dungeon Crawler Carl” by Matt Dinniman so I'm prepared for the next book's release in May! I've been passively reading “How to Win Friends and Influence People” by Dale Carnegie by recommendation from a patron, and the book was such a pleasant surprise! It is much more about kindness and cooperation than I was expecting. I'm also still tinkering through “I’ve Got Questions: The Spiritual Practice of Having It Out with God“ by Erin Hicks Moon, which has perfectly balanced out hope and realism. #askalibrarian

It's Thursday! It's 12:00! It's time for Ask a Librarian! What questions do you have for Heather and Rosanne? Also, feel free to join us and answer any questions that spark your interest. Heather is a Library Technician at Independent Hill Library who loves proselytizing about Hoopla and Libby! When they're not DMing for patrons or promoting crafts, they enjoy researching books and prompts for their Books on Tap and their Writing Hour Clubs. They adore books with atypical formatting and absurd trivia, and they especially love to read them with a cat in their lap. Rosanne has a Master's Degree in Library Sciences from the University of Maryland, College Park. She has worked in academic, public and school libraries, and is a Librarian at Haymarket Gainesville Library. She loves reading with her son, devouring scary movies, and adventuring with her husband. Her favorite genres are anything YA, horror, epic fantasies, and graphic novels. #askalibrarian
