Princess...Or Something

FORGOTTEN ISLAND is another winner from @Dreamworks. While the film we watched was unfinished, the animation that was done looked incredible. The heart and humor shine within the opening few minutes culminating in an emotional finale. I can't wait to watch this again.

FORGOTTEN ISLAND might hit big as a "weird kid" favorite in September. The finished animation that we did see was gorgeous, the characters were instantly likable, and the Filipino folklore world felt incredibly unique. What a cool CinemaCon experience!

I checked out FORGOTTEN ISLAND at #Cinemacon Here are my thoughts!

Saw an in-progress cut of FORGOTTEN ISLAND this morning! It’s an ambitious story with a strong sense of identity from directors Januel Mercardo and Joel Crawford. I appreciate that Dreamworks allowed them to make a blank check movie with so much creative freedom. #CinemaCon

Forgotten Island is a gem. As a story based on Filipino Mythology but set in the 90s, it includes an incredible amount of cultural touchstones. Great voice work from H.E.R., Dave Franco, Lea Salonga, @Jokoy and more plus visuals that are shaping up to be something luscious. In a year of strong animation features, Forgotten Island (from the creators of Puss In Boots: The Last Wish) stands to be one of this year’s strongest. @UniversalPics has a big hit on their hands here. 🥹🩷 Reading all the incredible reviews for DreamWorks FORGOTTEN ISLAND fill’s me with so much joy. To see so many people praising the film and celebrating Filipino culture and its unique and creative animation style is just a beautiful site to behold. For a while so many articles kept peddling the lie that people didn’t care about original animation anymore just because it was doing well on streaming but not in theaters. Original animation has been incredible these last couple of years and it doesn’t matter if it’s on streaming or in theaters they are the lifeline of the animation art form, and I’m Hoping everyone will go out and support this film just like we all have for #GOAT and #HOPPERS. Discovered #ForgottenIsland @UniversalPics @Dreamworks this morning at @CinemaCon … and I’m still not over it. Deeply moving, beautifully crafted, and emotionally overwhelming in the best way. FORGOTTEN ISLAND blends Filipino mythology with a lively and imaginative friendship that results in an unlikely and appealing blend: MOANA, SPIDERVERSE, and SUPERBAD all came to mind. A strong original play from Dreamworks and THE LAST WISH directors.

Forgotten Island is a beautiful story of friendship, feeling seen, and never being forgotten and somehow also laugh out loud funny! The animation styles are EVERYTHING. I laughed, I cried, I’m still not emotionally stable. Obsessed. #CinemaCon

This has been a difficult year for entertainment. Teams are being cut, studios are closing or moving, and audiences are drifting away from supporting the work. As a production designer and artist, I’ve never felt more uncertainty about where our industry is headed, but I’ve also never felt more clarity in why we do this. We create to tell stories that matter, to build worlds that resonate, and to connect with people in ways nothing else can. The landscape is changing, but so are we. And that resilience, that drive to keep creating, is what will carry us forward.
