Philosophical liberalism, in its embrace of meritocracy, is incompatible with systems that prize personal loyalty or blind obedience above wisdom, competence, and independence of action and thought.

Liberalism embraces religious pluralism. America’s liberal founders not only rejected the notion of a national church, they decried the dangers of establishing a relationship between the church and the state.

That the enlightenment liberals who founded America detested war is evident from their writings, even as they framed the foundations of a nation born of revolution.

We hold these truths to be self evident - -we are all of equal moral worth -we have a right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. That’s the liberal worldview.

By placing the dignity of all human beings front and center, liberalism provides a strong incentive to find alternatives to violent conflict. We recognize that peace is not achieved through violence, but through creativity, innovation, and the best aspects of our human character.
