US has sent 7-8,000 Marines to the gulf to threaten some kind of half assed invasion while giving Iran weeks notice and time to prepare, big brain chess move! However, most people don't understand the composition of military units and what any of the terminology means so in simple terms, the Marine expeditionary units sent to the gulf's primary purpose and mission mandate is to be the tip of the spear in a flashpoint or invasion. That's the whole reason they exist, to attack from the sea and air and hold ground. That said, the US military like everyone else has had significant cuts since the 1990s and these units are drastically smaller and less equipped than they should be on paper without heavy armor for example. Of the 8,000 Marines, this includes sailors, pilots, cooks, mechanics, administrators etc. The actual combat force is a measely TWO BATTALIONS so the real number of boots in an "invasion" would be well under 1500 men. If this is a bluff, it's not even a good one. If it isn't - anyone who thinks 1500 men can conquer Iran.. you should vote for Trump and get another vaccine. If you think this is going to work as a bluff, that's just as dumb. It's very likely they would suffer significant casualties just trying to land and stabilize a beachhead anywhere, meanwhile the Iranian population has these things called cell phones and internet and would be livestreaming everything all over world, communicating inside the country as the entire civilian population unified against American invaders would act as millions of sensors. There is nowhere to hide or stage troops for serious combat operations without being in the open, well within range of Iran's deep supply of rockets and drones while the Americans have pretty near run out of interceptor capacity. Trump is the most retarded war president of all time.
