Remember church: poverty is often only a sudden death, unexpected job loss, serious or lengthy illness or injury, unforeseeable large expense, victim of theft, or raised rent away for many people, including those who are among you. Don't assume everyone has a safety net.

Jakelin Amei Rosmery Caal Maquin. 7 year-old girl from Guatemala. Fearfully & wonderfully made in the image of God. Tragically, she died while in Border Patrol custody. Long journey, minimal food, no medical staff. Complex but AVOIDABLE if we simply valued her life. Jesus wept.

Life is good but life is hard. Grace meets us in community in a way that it does not in isolation. In community, there is joy; a shared table; solidarity in pain; presence. And stubborn love to carry you through.

This is the gift we must give others in our culture of isolation - to really see them.

There is nothing like the power of being fully known and loved for who you are.
