ANTHESIS DATING 🌾 The rice crops are flowering and the team are recording anthesis dates on our paddock trials 🌼 We record the date at which approximately 50% of the panicles within the plot are flowering 🍚 Allowing us to compare our potential varieties to industry standards

Last week the RBA team attended the 2025 Australian Rice Conference, celebrating 100 years of rice growing in the Riverina and 75 years of SunRice. An amaizing week showcasing Australian rice and our growers! 🌾 #riceindustry #australianriceconference #whittonmalthouse

Update on the glasshouse. Crossing is in full swing for our top crosses. F1’s seed increase nurseries have flowered, the DNA test results have come back, harvest will start soon. Bulk seed increases for the field are progressing well. SSD nurseries harvest will start next week.

And just like that the glasshouse is full again. During the last few weeks we have resown SSD’s, sown a seed increase for seed destined for the paddock next season and completed sowing the next big crossing block. #ricebreedingaustralia #ausriceindustry #ausrice

The team is busy threshing the harvested short rows. Each of the roughly 3,000 short rows will be threshed, cleaned, DNA tested for quality characteristics and packed away for sowing next season. #ricebreedingaustralia #ausriceindustry #ausrice

The field team finished hand harvesting the short rows and the hill plots today. Approximately 3,000 short rows and hill plots were harvested, a massive undertaking! These hill plots and short rows will be dried, threshed individually and cleaned for next season’s plots.
