This #ThrowbackThursday was taken by the Collector of Customs Hugh Cordery, in 1933. It shows Detective Sergeant Hewitt and Inspector Fahey with seized distilling equipment and illegal distillery paraphernalia, near Gore.

First brew of the year. Petit Luna our low ABV hibiscus and lime sour Belgian ale. For the first time we have added the hibiscus to the mash rather than struggling with mesh bags in the kettle and FV.

We hear a lot of scaremongering about alcohol consumption. SNZ release yesterday showed the per capita volume of alcohol available for consumption last year continued its long slow decline. Please keep in mind next time there are claims of crises, need for immediate action, etc

The case for an alcohol excise holiday is probably stronger than the case for the fuel tax holiday. cutthekegtax.co.nz At least with the fuel tax, you knew that excise was around the right level and builds roads. But alcohol excise always overtaxes moderate drinkers.
