Good news, the note sitting on my desk since May of 2025 of ‘why can’t I find bulk packets of this 1 inbred across 3 different year increases?’ has now been resolved 😅 And **not** just by filing away the note in the ‘round filing cabinet’ ie 🗑️ 🎉🎉🎉

When the emails are quiet, it’s time to turn the music *loud* (to focus the brain) & work on cross reference field notes from July & harvest seed set notes to adjust planting delays for specific pairs of crossing blocks Only 12% of the 117 pairs needed adjusting #NotTooShabby

It’s great when I have undergrad students working for over a year with me… lets me say things like ‘remember this time last year when I had you do annoying thing x? Well, I made a much bigger seed stock increase last summer so we don’t have to do it that way for this spring’

A quick half-foot of snow on campus late yesterday has Ames nearing half of its typical full-season snow amount in just two weeks. Ames averages 32" of snow per season, and we sit at 15.2" since November 1st.

Panic mode sets in when you see yellow seeds on ears that are supposed to be ‘white seed’ Calmness takes over when you look at the caps of the seed & see they are ‘white’ … so it’s more like milk line hadn’t recessed as much & not a contamination during shootbag / pollination

Waiting for an email response to resolve a high-priority red tape issue is as good a time as any to distract myself by going to pick a ‘quick’ 700 ears this afternoon to help wrap up harvesting one projects pollinated ears … not too many left of the seasons ~9,000 ears.

🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄 Some people (I’d wager mostly office based) don’t seem to understand that not all of us use outlook as our email app… so those ‘tapbacks’ to acknowledge an email is essentially ‘lost information’ to those not on the outlook train
