It’s weird that liberals have become afraid of “the carceral state” that they’d let someone with an infectious disease (TB) and under multiple isolation orders just go free. Would it be different if he had covid and wasn’t wearing a mask?
Aaron Bergman 🔍 ⏸️ (in that order)@AaronBergman18

What an insane story: there’s a homeless guy with tuberculosis in New Hampshire who is just going around potentially infecting others Courts have ordered him to stay isolated, but the state can’t seem to actually enforce this (yes, with violence if necessary)

Everyone's letting them have it for this (and with good reason), but I do think it reflects a fairly widespread view in Canada — viz. that harsh criticism of public institutions amounts to an act of lèse-majesté.

If writing accurately about what the courts are doing risks undermining confidence in the judiciary, the problem just might be the judges, not the people who are reporting what the judges are doing ...

1. This is so vague & provides no names or links, that one cant actually see what the supposed criticism is and is left just having to take their word that its bad. 2. The idea that no one should ever critique those making decision affecting Canadians is deeply illiberal

One of the largest spills of untreated wastewater in American history happened while an environmental review process held up sewer line repairs because they were studying risks to a flower and a bat.

I am center-left, but the idea that “we shouldn’t build anything on the Moon because it will offend some indigenous people” is my least favorite type of leftism.
The Walrus@thewalrus

The moon has long been a shared locus of imagination and significance for Indigenous peoples. With the return of lunar missions, it is now a frontier for industry. Writer Michelle Cyca explores the economic and colonial logics shaping this transformation. thewalrus.ca/with-the-artem…

Because Lewis has spent the past 10 years dumping on the economies of Alberta and Saskatchewan that the provincial NDP supports. Buy I wouldn’t expect someone from the otter side of the country to understand.
The Koopa Guy 🍁🦫@TheKoopaGuy

A day later and I'm still trying to figure out why the Alberta and Saskatchewan NDP decided to dump on Lewis as leader. I understand intra-party beef is a thing but surely keeping it under wraps so as to not make the party look dysfunctional was the play?
