In Margate. My cheeks are red. I am shaking. I popped into an exhibition that turned out to be the insane fever dream of an artist called Matthew Collins: ‘Drawings Against Genocide.’ The exhibition is described as ‘drawings… raising consciousness about hell…. Israel is the pure encapsulation of it. Zionism is this terror state’s ruling ideology.’
Shocked by the use of Nazi imagery - the room is full of the Star of David pasted around figures meant to be Israelis and the Jewish ‘lobby’ spewing blood, to say nothing of blonde yummy mummies wearing ‘globalise the intifada’ shirts, I spoke to the artist to share my reaction as a Jewish person.
He was instantly aggressive. As soon as I started to say I was shocked and threatened by what I was seeing because it was Nazi imagery, the artist started yelling at me that I didn’t mean anything I was saying. Anytime I tried to speak (calmly) he said: ‘you don’t mean any of what you said, you’re just repeating ‘hasbarah talking points’ because ‘you’re defending a genocide’. On and on he yelled, in my face.
I said: ‘if I was a Black person…’ but couldn’t finish the sentence because: ‘you’re not are you?’
On the Nazi ideology point he said: ‘yeah. Why do you think it’s there. Israel are the Nazis’.
His breath was disgusting. The crowd began booing and closing in around me, making to shoe me out. I said: ‘fine, get the Jew out’ and he yelled more across the room at me, ‘repeatedly jeering ‘call the police, go ahead, call the police’. I said I would, and the community security trust, which features as a devil in his exhibition. This was met with even more jeering. ‘Yeah, call the CST’ was the last I heard before leaving.
Someone snapped pictures of me while I was being shouted at.
Short video shows the artist. The longer video, of our final almost surreally disgusting exchange, didn’t record.

However, a full video later surfaced from local witnesses, presenting a different account, showing that she was the one who initiated the provocation and acted aggressively.
The point here isn't just about one video clip… it's about the importance of seeing the whole truth before passing judgment.
This is the reality of Israel: it commits aggression and then claims victimhood.

The funniest thing happening in the world right now is the way the western political/media class is asking us to be shocked and outraged that Iran would attack US allies who are actively collaborating toward its destruction in an unprovoked war of aggression. It's hilarious.
Think about how dehumanized the Muslim world would have to be in your perception in order for that kind of thinking to make sense. You'd have to see them as so unlike yourself that it would astonish and baffle you for them to be retaliating against unprovoked aggressions like any normal human being. Your view would essentially have to be, "Why are those Iranians hitting us back? Don't they know their role is to be killed, and our role is to do the killing? They've got the natural order of things completely backward!"
Iran is fighting for its very existence as a state. Obviously it's going to respond aggressively toward everyone who's helping to destroy it. It's a symptom of a profoundly sick and twisted civilization that this would seem abnormal or surprising to anyone.

back in the late 1980s/early 90s, I remember reading a recollection by an aid to then President Jimmy Carter, and the story stayed with me.
The President was lamenting Iran's attachment to the past, rhetorically asking why they can't just focus on the present and look to the future; why they kept bringing up things in the past. It probably had to do with the hostage situation and the aftermath of that.
The aid was himself either of Persian ancestry or was otherwise well acquainted with Iranian society. In trying to explain the mindset of people in an 8000 year old civilization, he said: "Mr President, the old souq in Iran is 6000 years old, and what they call the NEW souq, is 2000 years old."
something 2000 years old is "new" to people with the kind of ancestral memory of Iranians.
