@HeyItsDingo @_claypot The Watsonian explanation is 100% true, no disagreement there. I really doubt they "couldn't get random encounters working", they're like the most basic feature of RPG's. I would find it hard to believe it wasn't intentional to not include them in Colosseum from the beginning.

@ShmittyMac @_claypot I will admit that the second part could be me misremembering something I had heard as a kid that could very well be wrong. But the first part is directly stated in game, and is the central focus of the wild Pokemon system added to XD Gale of Darkness.

my favorite part of pokemon colosseum specifically is that everything in it looks like it smells faintly of cigarettes

@HeyItsDingo @_claypot Source? I'm pretty sure it's very intentional to only have trainer battles, and the desert region was designed to accommodate that. I can't imagine "couldn't program random encounters" is the reason at all.

@_claypot That, of course, is the Watsonian explanation, the Doylist explanation is that Genius Sonority didn't have the dev time to learn how to program random encounters in the game.
