Rock History Live!
Rock History Live!@KTrain939913·
Today in Rock History April 8, 1941 JJ Jackson, best known as one of the original MTV VJs, was born in New York City. He began his broadcasting career as a radio DJ in Boston and New York in the 1960’s, before moving to Los Angeles’ KLOS-FM and becoming a key figure in the west coast rock scene. On August 1, 1981, Jackson began his role as one of the original MTV VJ’s along with Nina Blackwood, Mark Goodman, Alan Hunter and Martha Quinn. He hosted early MTV shows, introduced videos and interviewed music personalities. His years behind the mic on radio brought instant credibility and helped define the new video channel’s personality during its early years. After leaving MTV, he returned to radio in Los Angeles. Jackson passed away from a heart attack on March 17, 2004 at the age of 62.

In 1973 Martin Cooper unveiled the world’s first truly mobile phone. If I could travel back in time I’d smash it on the sidewalk.

My heart is breaking -- Nick (@nickpopemod) passed away this afternoon at our home. The last few weeks of his life, even as he suffered, he managed to do a few interviews from home. I was so lucky to have met and to have married Nick. He was a wonderful husband. I loved him dearly.
