The Atlantic Canadian Grid is at a Critical Inflection Point
After decades of relatively flat growth, electricity demand in Atlantic Canada is poised to accelerate—driven by the electrification of heating, transportation, and industry.
At the same time, geopolitical shifts and climate imperatives have created a once-in-a-generation opportunity for Nova Scotia and Atlantic Canada to position themselves as clean energy superpowers.
This is a moment that demands bold vision and decisive action and Distributed Energy Resources have a crucial role to play.
The 2025 Atlantic Canada Solar Summit will bring together the hundreds of organizations working at the edge of the grid—shaping the future through distributed energy resources and demand-side solutions. It’s a pivotal opportunity to connect, collaborate, and lead during this transformative era for the region’s energy system.
This year’s Summit will explore themes of Atlantic Canadian energy abundance, regional collaboration and the power of a unified approach to unlocking the full potential of distributed renewables.
We are seeking a broad range of presentations. Please consider applying!

Did you know that Nova Scotians have a protected right to generate their own electricity under the Nova Scotia Electricity Act? This empowers homeowners and businesses to install solar panels and reduce their reliance on the grid—while contributing to a cleaner, more resilient energy future.

Two new Community Solar Projects are being built in Nova Scotia as part of the Community Solar Program that launched last years.
A 4.8 MW project is being built in Brooklyn, Annapolis County as part of a collaboration between Potlotek First Nation and AI Renewables. This project will provide power for up to 630 homes annually, making renewable energy more accessible to residents who cannot install solar panels themselves. Additionally, a 1.7 MW solar garden is planned for Sydney.
Both projects are supported by the $10.6 million grant program that is being administered by Net Zero Atlantic.
