I'm in favour of House of Lords reform (I'd move to a chamber of experts appointed by citizens' juries/committees) but for these parliamentarians to link it to "filibustering" on assisted dying is disingenuous. I've watched many of the Friday debates, key issues are being aired.

NEW: The battle over the assisted dying bill is escalating. Now MPs and peers have established an all party parliamentary group to push for Lords reform, in part prompted by the assisted dying bill’s delay in the Lords. “Today it is clearer than ever that this institution, which dates back around 700 years and is the second largest parliamentary body on earth after the Chinese National People’s Congress, can no longer be justified in its current form.” Opponents of assisted dying say these are threats which won’t stop them scrutinising the bill in as much detail as they see fit. But supporters of assisted dying say the 1200+ amendments and likelihood that the Lords will scupper the bill are signs that the chamber needs reform. Expect this row to only become more acrimonious…
