@nmaurer34 New Mexico would have been seriously considered for the field, perhaps the first team out. Belmont would've been close, too.

If this season had a 76-team field, Oklahoma, Auburn, Indiana, San Diego St, Virginia Tech, and Oklahoma State were locks. Cal and Arizona State would've likely been the last two teams in.

@bracketproject I do think a winning record in Quad 3 games and above would benefit Nov and Dec. scheduling and goes in long with some opinions brought forward by @MattBrownEP and @RoccoMiller8

@bracketproject As one of the voters who picked 10% I voted for expansion with caveats - something like at-large teams needed a winning record in Q1 to Q3 teams or at least 4 of 8 need to finish Top 3 conf with NET in top 100

Before we get to the matrix results, I asked everybody who submitted a bracket yesterday how many teams should play in the NCAA tourney. 48% said leave it at 68. 38% said go back to 64 (likely a result of seeing this season's bubble). Only 10% wanted something larger than 68.

@Sam_Vecenie I did some math, and if Cincy beats BYU and at TCU and if you take away the Eastern Michigan and Xavier losses due to the absence of Jizzle James, you are looking at a team- Top 40 in NET, Top 45 in WAB and getting an at-large bid teamusatracker.substack.com/p/march-madnes…

@Sam_Vecenie I wrote about Cincy this AM -metrics are fascinating #32 in Torvik (the best evaluation tool the Men’s Selection Committee uses to determine how a team is playing now) Cincy has a low WAB (#66), but mostly their most damaging losses came when Jizzle James was not on the team

I don't pay enough attention to the bracketology stuff anymore just because I don't have enough time to so I have no idea where Cincinnati sits on the bubble. But man, I do know that I definitely would not want any part of them if I was a higher seeded team right now.

@BracketguyDave @townseal Villanova 1991 (#9 seed) was the other team….Also top 10 SOS…historical precedent is there on two games over. 500 + tough SOS…16 losses would be a first so they may need to beat Bama now

@townseal There was another, I’ll have to double check, but again, that UGA team ended two games over .500. Auburn will at 15 losses unless they win the SEC tourney, and need at least two more wins to finish two over.

Auburn's home loss to Ole Miss is problematic on several fronts - foremost that it drops the Tigers to 15-14 overall. There's no precedent for an at-large team just one game above .500 (even with the No. 2 overall SOS). Auburn might need 3 more wins at this point.
