National Framework for the Recognition of Wartime Service Senator Hassan Yussuff has introduced Bill S-246 into Canada's Senate, the Act would require fair recognition of modern wartime service. Liberals have yet to fulfill promise to extend fair recognition to @CanadianForces personnel, a gap having been identified by the House of Commons Veterans Affairs committee. parl.ca/DocumentViewer…

I think Keir Starmer is the worst PM for the UK, at this time. I hope MPs are able to push him out on Monday! Who could step in tomorrow? I think Rayner may yet prove problematic. Why take the chance? Do you think Wes Streeting could become Prime Minister? He'd be my first choice. Having said that, how about Al Carns? Though only recently elected, he's quite impressive. Frankly, ALMOST ANYONE would be better. #UKpoli #Starmer

@cai_apgwilym How many parliamentary republics have been vulnerable to authoritarian slide vs constitutional monarchies? I can think of several, including Hungary, but can only think of one Constitutional Monarchy which seems to be shifting back to more democratic.

@TorCentre Parliamentarism and constitutional monarchy do correlate with one another, as the former evolved out of the latter historically. So the presence of monarchies at the top of the ranking seem to be the result of this relationship, rather than because of monarchism in and of itself.

The Case for a "Democratic Shield" in Hungary 🇭🇺👑 Péter Magyar begins the monumental task of restoring captured institutions and demands presidential accountability,.. perhaps it's time for a serious conversation about the Constitutional Monarchy model. Why is this a viable path for a "New Hungary"? 1️⃣ Democracy's "Gold Standard".. The latest @TheEconomist Democracy Index shows a fascinating trend: Constitutional Monarchies (Norway, NZ, Denmark, Canada, etc.) consistently dominate the top spots. They aren't just "stable"—they are the world’s most robust protectors of civil liberties. 2️⃣ Monarchy Enjoys Support.. Recent polling suggests nearly half of Hungarians—and a vast majority of the youth—view restoration favourably. Hungarians value their formerly reigning dynasts, as seen in the Habsburgs currently in Hungary's diplomatic service. Royals can be excellent ambassadors. 3️⃣ Bulwark for Stability & Democracy Magyar is right to target the "puppet" presidency. A hereditary, non-partisan Head of State would provide a permanent check that no "Orbán-style" supermajority could ever capture or intimidate. It separates the Soul of the Nation from the Politics of the Day. If the new PM wants to ensure his nation never again backslides into autocracy, he might look at the model that works best globally. #Hungary #MagyarPeter #DemocracyIndex @magyarpeterMP #ConstitutionalMonarchy #Hungaria

The survival of these systems was entirely possible had specific actors made different choices. Neither change was spawned by a love for republic. Any system that promised stability would have been welcomed, including autocracy, president or monarch. Opportunists took advantage of vulnerabilities after major conflicts to seize power. Older royals like Victor Emmanuel & Frederica, problematic in their final years & younger ones like Umberto & Constantine, needing to find their footing, have reigned without mishap. Italy & Greece had more experience with authoritarianism than with democracy. Had Constitutional Monarchy been more culturally embedded, it would likely have been better able to endure. Italy and Greece could have plausibly saved their monarchical systems. In both cases, the monarchies were abolished by narrow or context-dependent votes (Italy 1946, Greece 1974) following periods of war & major political crisis. The modern world has much greater awareness of political systems abroad & can use the net to amplify their aspirations. Hungarians are conservative, remember their history AND want democracy. Constitutional Monarchy fits their needs & they can see it working in other countries.

@TorCentre Probably worth asking why the Italians and Greeks voted to remove their kings and become republics. In both cases, their monarchs gave legal sanction to dictators, in 1922 and 1967. Constitutional monarchy does not protect against coups d'état, if anything it can facilitate them.

@TVietor08 Please listen to this guy, @TroyWGreen. He seems to need people & money. I think he needs social media expertise, desperately. He needs events across the state & a team that helps him to be his best self, at each .. He seems like the kind of guy Oklahoma voters would like, if only they could get to know him. He's not a great speaker, yet. I doubt that's what Oklahoma voters are looking for. I suspect most want someone they can relate to, someone that's real. He is that! Conventional wisdom, especially big city DNC will dismiss him.. BUT I suspect He's the kind of guy Oklahoma voters would like, if only they could get to know him. @TroyWGreen I think you could flip Oklahoma.. BUT Right Now.. You need to make it to the run-off, & then win the nomination. James Talarico was dismissed by conventional wisdom & yet he went on to win the nomination in Texas AND is putting DNC's best foot forward to flip that seat. I think YOU are DNC's best foot forward in Oklahoma! You need to win this nomination! I'm sure your team is working hard & most likely, they know what's what.. just the same, with the best of intensions, I have some thoughts .. Mobilize Disaffected Younger Voters Mirror the Talarico model: activate frustrated younger voters by highlighting that 80% of primary voters are over 55. Double down on the “Make It Count Movement” to energize this demographic and shift Oklahoma’s direction. Who on your team can most effectively reach out to young male voters? “The Green Agenda” in Rural Oklahoma Push the G.R.E.E.N. Act and rural equity message (“Built, Not Bought”) on infrastructure, healthcare access, and teacher pay. Outperforming typical Democratic margins in rural counties is essential for both the primary and general election. Leverage Law & Order & “Safe Haven” Credentials His 30-year law enforcement career and founding of Safe Haven Oklahoma (anti-human trafficking nonprofit) are his biggest differentiators. Lean hard into these “law and order” credentials to win crossover appeal with moderate Oklahomans and distance himself from career politicians. Win the “Common Ground” Argument Use his personal story of foster care and poverty to position himself as the authentic, working-class voice. “People Over Politics” messaging can attract independents and moderates tired of Washington-style gridlock. I think the cowboy pic is his best look. Troy W. Green needs a sharp social media director to amplify these core execution priorities and turn his strengths into a competitive edge Aggressive Grassroots Fundraising Green’s current haul ($10,700) lags far behind Thomas ($40,000). He must flood the campaign with small-dollar donations immediately to fuel statewide media buys and regional outreach. youtube.com/shorts/1jYjnRU…

“If energy is Canada’s superpower, complacency is its kryptonite. This reality has been exposed again this past month as it’s become increasingly clear that new pipeline egress will primarily head south to the U.S., not west to Asia, in the coming years,” writes @ExnerPirot is the director of energy, natural resources and environment at MLI in the Hub. Anniversary of Canada's Vimy Ridge Victory Under Lt.-Gen. Julian Byng, all four divisions of the Canadian Corps attacked together, using tunnels, artillery, and rehearsals to succeed where French and British forces lost tens of thousands. The victory cost 3,598 Canadian lives and over 10,600 casualties total, yet boosted national pride as a symbol of unity.
Prime Minister of Canada@CanadianPM

More than a century ago, Canadian soldiers from across the country stood shoulder to shoulder to achieve a decisive victory at Vimy Ridge – one that came at a profound cost. Today, their legacy endures. It reminds us that unity must be built and that freedom must be defended.

Piers Morgan, a man not historically known for self-restraint, has just detonated a very large bomb directly underneath the White House’s victory parade. His conclusion is not subtle. Iran still controls the Strait of Hormuz. The Pentagon burned through thirty billion dollars achieving approximately nothing. And Trump’s approval ratings are now doing what all truly expensive things eventually do: falling apart faster than expected. This is the kind of post-war assessment that nobody in a MAGA hat is going to enjoy reading. The historic victory, it turns out, was historic mainly in the sense that the gap between the announcement and the collapse was unusually short. Thirty billion dollars. Iran still has the Strait. The ratings are down. If this is winning, one hesitates to imagine what losing looks like. Stay connected, Follow Gandalv @Microinteracti1

US official allegedly issuing veiled threats to the Vatican over opposition to the US-Israeli war in Iran. Sources claim Pentagon officials invoked the "Avignon Papacy" to suggest the Holy See should align with US interests, prompting the Pope to cancel future US visits. While the Pentagon calls the reports "distorted," the incident underscores intense friction between the White House and the Vatican.
