@stevenfiorillo What is this take? These funds are meant for lazy investors. If you want to be more hands-on, buy the individual stocks. When you buy an index fund, you're giving up your ability to make decisions because you're letting someone else manage your money. That's the whole point.

Here's the part that should make everyone stop and think: Vanguard gets to vote all those shares. When you buy a Vanguard index fund, you're handing over your voting rights along with your capital. You own the economic exposure, the gains, the losses, the dividends but you're giving away the actual governance power associated with those shares. The votes on CEO pay, board composition, mergers, and corporate policy go to Vanguard's internal stewardship team and you have no say in how those votes are cast even though it's your capital that is buying the shares within the ETF, CEF, or Mutual Fund. It's not just Vanguard — this is the same for BlackRock, State Street and other financial institutions. Between Vanguard, BlackRock, and State Street, they are collectively the largest shareholder in roughly 40% of all publicly listed companies in the United States. In my opinion index funds were supposed to democratize investing. In many ways they did, but due to how large these funds have become they have created one of the most concentrated pools of corporate voting power ever assembled. The part I can't get over is that the voting of these shares is controlled by a handful of asset managers even though the voting power was funded by millions of people who never asked to be part of any governance agenda.

Vanguard’s funds have over $2,153,000,000,000 invested in just these 10 stocks. These are the latest top 10 holdings in Vanguard’s $6.9 trillion 13F portfolio mentioned with market values and portfolio weights: 1. 🇺🇸 Nvidia: $423 billion (6.13%) 2. 🇺🇸 Apple: $388 billion (5.62%) 3. 🇺🇸 Microsoft: $347 billion (5.03%) 4. 🇺🇸 Amazon: $195 billion (2.83%) 5. 🇺🇸 Broadcom: $167 billion (2.42%) 6. 🇺🇸 Alphabet (Google) Class A: $166 billion (2.40%) 7. 🇺🇸 Alphabet (Google) Class C: $132 billion (1.92%) 8. 🇺🇸 Meta Platforms: $132 billion (1.91%) 9. 🇺🇸 Tesla: $116 billion (1.69%) 10. 🇺🇸 Eli Lilly: $88 billion (1.28%) Source: Vanguard Group 13F filings Q4, 2025 Vanguard group is the world’s second-largest asset manager, managing over $11.6 trillion in assets (AUM). This 13F portfolio holds over $6.9 trillion in assets and represents a significant portion of Vanguard’s total assets under management (AUM). Because Vanguard primarily tracks indices, its 13F filing is essentially a mirror of the total investable U.S. market, with a heavy concentration in the "Magnificent Seven" and other mega-cap technology leaders. The top 10 holdings account for roughly 31.2% of the total portfolio value. Nvidia is the largest holding in the 13F portfolio. Vanguard holds about 2.26 billion shares of Nvidia (NVDA), accounting for 6.13% of its total 13F portfolio. This stake is worth over $423 billion. Apple is the 2nd largest holding of Vanguard. Apple has a 5.62% weight in the portfolio, currently worth over $388 billion. Microsoft is the 3rd largest holding. Microsoft accounts for 5.03% of the 13F portfolio, valued at over $347 billion. The other top 10 holdings include Amazon, Broadcom, Alphabet (Google) Class A, Alphabet (Google) Class C, Meta, Tesla and Eli Lilly.

@HolySmokas I wish it was. This slow bleed is worse than anything on earth. Just fake news headlines to instant pump it back and fade 1% then slow bleed. Rather circuit breakers than this trash.

@BillMelugin_ I'm blaming both sides. Democrats clearly don't care about these crimes. Republicans are afraid of pushback so go soft on crime after a little bit of protesting by S)R_S funded groups. This country doesn't care about its constituents and goes after low hanging fruit "criminals".

Because it happened in 2023 when the Biden administration policy was that a shoplifting charge wouldn’t be an enforcement priority for ICE. Nor would sanctuary Chicago have notified ICE they had him: The Laken Riley act passed in 2025. His prior arrest was in 2023.
David J. Bier@David_J_Bier

Interesting that ICE didn't track him down after his shoplifting arrest, as mandated by the Laken Riley Act, because Trump's DHS has completely ignored the Laken Riley Act in favor of racial profiling random people on the street.

This appears to be Laken Riley 2.0. Yet another Venezuelan illegal alien allowed into the country by the Biden administration, then released again by a sanctuary jurisdiction on a shoplifting arrest, now accused of murdering an innocent young American college student.
Bill Melugin@BillMelugin_

BREAKING: DHS confirms that the suspect in custody for murdering Loyola University student Sheridan Gorman in Chicago is a Venezuelan illegal alien who was caught & released at the border by the Biden administration in May 2023. DHS says he was also released from local custody after a shoplifting arrest in the sanctuary city of Chicago on June 19, 2023. DHS identifies the suspect as Venezuelan national Jose Medina-Medina. Medina-Medina is accused of approaching Gorman while she was walking in a park with friends early Thursday morning. DHS says Medina-Medina came up to her while wearing a mask and armed with a gun. As she attempted to flee, he fired his gun and shot her. Gorman was shot and pronounced dead at the scene. DHS statement: “Sheridan Gorman had her whole life ahead of her before this cold-blooded killer decided to end her life. She was failed by open border policies and sanctuary politicians who RELEASED this illegal alien TWICE before he went on to commit this heinous murder,” said Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis. “We are calling on Governor Pritzker and Chicago’s sanctuary politicians to commit to not releasing this criminal illegal alien from jail back into American neighborhoods.”

@FareedZakaria @FT @KimGhattas There are consequences to terror networks that team with Iran. Unfortunately, when you have a society that allows terrorism to become part of government, it cannot be allowed to go unchecked once they escalate. If Lebanon never fired a missile, there would be no counterattack.

@Cernovich The irony in the arm-chair quarterback line. Boomers think we're fighting 1940s era weaponry in 2026. The operations are a lot more complex now with the technology capabilities. The worst part is they're cheaper to produce.

We've all heard people in media ask hundreds of times, "Does Israel have a right to exist?" But I don't think we've ever heard a single person in national media ask, "Does Palestine have a right to exist?" And they claim to be objective! That's disgustingly biased. Add in that Palestinians are the one actually struggling to exist as a nation and the bias of our media becomes haunting. Do you see how they've been purposely misdirecting you the whole time? They wanted all of your sympathy to go to Israel and none of it to the Palestinians. They flipped the truth on its head and then insisted they were the only objective ones. Media in this country hasn't been bringing you the news, they've been twisting reality to suit the interests of the powerful. Traditional media is a tool that is not used to show you reality but to distort in on purpose to make you reach the wrong conclusion. They frame thigs in a way to make you choose the interest of the powerful over your own interests. Once you see it, you can't unsee it.
