Thank you to everyone who has supported us since then, and if you haven’t yet what better time than today to support local, see all of the work we did to restore this historic building, and try what Edmontonians voted to be the best BBQ in #yeg all in one visit!?

117 years ago today, on September 11, 1908 the Transit Hotel opened its doors for the first time in the heart of what was then the Village of North Edmonton. We were proud to give one of the oldest buildings in #yeg a new life 4 years ago after it had been closed since 2017.

1/2-Edmontonians! Step into living history at the Transit Smokehouse & BBQ, where vintage photos and mementos line every wall of this iconic building. Even in 1909 the booming Village of North Edmonton with the Transit Hotel at its hub was a gathering place for the community #yeg

1/3-A huge THANK YOU to everyone who’s shared our posts, tagged friends, and stopped by these past few months — your support means everything! #yeg The restaurant world is still tough out there. If you liked and shared our call for community support in November and haven’t made

1/x-Edmonton, we need to speak from the heart. This has been the hardest year since we opened our doors in 2021, even tougher than the pandemic. Rising costs have hit us hard and without strong community support in the months ahead, we may not make it to our 5th anniversary #yeg.

Just down the road from the Transit Smokehouse & BBQ, hidden in Borden Park's past, stood Edmonton's original zoo! Built in the late 1920s, it even featured its own thrilling wooden rollercoaster—the Green Rattler. 🐘🎢 #yeghistory #yegger #yeggers

Photo during construction of Alberta’s Legislature Building, completed in 1913 at a cost of $2 million. Just south is the 5th (and final) location of the Fort Edmonton trading post of the Hudson Bay Company that evolved into the modern day #yeg we know today @FortEdPark. #ableg

Did you know the original Edmonton Zoo was located in Borden Park in North #yeg? It was built in the late ‘20s and even had its own wooden rollercoaster called The Green Rattler. The Zoo ultimately closed in the ‘50s and was replaced with the Edmonton Valley Zoo we know today!

1/x-Hey Edmonton! We have some great local history for you. Right here in the heart of the old community of Packingtown in the Village of North #yeg sat the Edmonton Public Stockyards which were the second largest in North America! Only Chicago’s Union Stock Yards were larger!

Animated a neat 1970s concept drawing we discovered in the basement of the Transit during renos! The walls of our 1908 heritage building are now lined with all the incredible mementos and photos we unearthed—including artifacts we believe date back to the original construction.
