Hearing a lot of Husker fans say Nebraska needs to get away from the 3-3-5 because “you can’t stop the run.” Here are teams in the top 20 of rush defense (YPG) that base out of 3-3-5 personnel: Texas Tech Illinois Georgia Toledo Texas Auburn Notre Dame Michigan Vanderbilt Missouri Wisconsin Oregon Basing out of a 3-3-5 doesn’t mean you don’t use 4-man fronts. Most of these teams are in 4-man structures more than true 3-down, with the 3rd LB acting as a pseudo DE. Just saying “go to a 4-3” doesn’t magically fix run defense. Jimmy’s & Joe’s matter. Scheme helps, but personnel + execution win.
