Senior Chief Special Warfare Operator Collin Thomas led his team on a mission when they came under fire from the Taliban hiding in a tree line. Thomas left his covered position and led his team to assault the enemy. He located an enemy fighter in a trench and charged the enemy before he could bring his weapon to bear on Thomas's team. Thomas moved through machine gun fire and killed the enemy but was mortally wounded in the process. His actions saved the rest of his team from imminent danger and enabled them to complete the mission. For his heroism and sacrifice, Thomas was posthumously awarded the Silver Star. Thomas served 9 combat deployments with the SEALs, also earning 3 Bronze Stars with "V", and a Purple Heart.
