@VTROLIO (this is not a serious attempt at answering) Roderick Terry Jr's [Yale] dad was on hand at the first college golf match in 1896 @ Ardsley Since golf carts were popularized in the 1950s, guessing either The Boarder Olympics or AAII #collegegolf tourneys, which were VERY popular

@ICTREH I would recall they nearly every player had a parent or parents following them.

Dr.John and Helen Moore parents of the late Tommy Moore. They are the answer. They started the Holiday Classic in NOLA in the late 1970’s and recruited parents to get involved in watching their kids. They were AJGA before that became a thing.

My wife and I watched nearly every shot our kiddos hit in junior golf…..so in 1 generation there was a big shift. Do we know Who was first and When it changed?

Junior golf and College golf I played in the 80’s and 90’s. I remember a few parents at bigger, national events. I never saw parents at college events or state events.
