@jodymcintyre_ When @darrenpjones first came on the scene in Politics I thought he was a breath of fresh. A humble man of substance and integrity. It's a shame that Labour and Whitehall have knocked all that out of him. So quickly too. If I were you Darren, I'd jump ship for your sanity.

Last night, I was contacted by another MP. There is growing pressure on Morgan McSweeney to “take the hit” for Epstein’s informant, Peter Mandelson. But Starmer's Labour is now infested with sexual predators + child rapists. Here are the names they don’t want you to mention:🧵

Our government is embarrassingly craven. It makes our country look incredibly weak that our ministers come on air to speak to the nation in such mousey avoidant ways about what we all know. It’s a terrible look for our PM, govt and nation.

@DerbyChrisW @campbellclaret @RoryStewartUK Where has big state, big welfare, big tax, big spend, closed borders ever delivered better quality of life for ordinary people? What you’re arguing for would impoverish - even further in your view - those whom you seek to help.

I was pleased that @campbellclaret and @RoryStewartUK offered a response to my comments about the monetary system.  Rory was right when he said it comes down to what sort of economy do we want. He actually described the options when he said: "Do you want to have a much bigger state with much bigger govt spending and much bigger govt control of the economy, or do you think it's important to leave a big space for the private sector for competition and innovation." If Alastair and Rory are honest with themselves, they'd have to acknowledge that giving more space for the private sector has simply not worked for the vast majority of British citizens.  And the UK's trade deficit, that Alastair and Rory cited, was considerably lower before we left a"big space for the private sector for competition and innovation." In fact, the UK regularly enjoyed a trade surplus before the govt gave that“big space" to the private sector.  This approach that Alastair and Rory want to retain, has led to a collapse in exports from the UK compared to what they were before govts embraced this laissez-faire economic approach. Rory's"big space for the private sector" has resulted in most of our manufacturing being offshored to low wage economies, and turned our public services and utilities into cash cows for corporations that are profiteering at our expense. I can't believe that Alastair and Rory travel around the country with their eyes closed. Just look at the state of our dilapidated infrastructure. A bigger role for the state and more govt spending is the only way we're going to reverse the decline, which paradoxically would offer significant opportunities for the private sector, which Alastair and Rory seem to venerate.  I therefore hope they will reconsider their support for an economic system that is axiomatically failing the British people. podcasts.apple.com/gb/channel/the…

When @campbellclaret and @RoryStewartUK spoke to @ZackPolanski they betrayed their fundamental misunderstanding of the monetary system. So here are 10 facts for Alastair and Rory to ponder. 1. "Govt debt" is a misnomer. It's not really debt at all. It's the value of govt bond sales 2. The govt does NOT use the proceeds from bond sales to pay for its spending programme. 3. The govt has access to as much money as it wants because it issues the currency. The challenge for the govt is not finding the money, it's identifying real resources in the economy such as workers, raw materials, machinery, and infrastructure etc. 4. Bond sales and taxation withdraw money from circulation in the economy and that stops inflation getting out of hand. 5. Bond sales are essentially a bookkeeping exercise for the Treasury. 6. Bond sales provide a guaranteed return on investment, which makes them very attractive to pension funds. 7. Bond sales are also a safe haven for banks, faceless corporations and super-rich oligarchs, providing them with a form of corporate welfare. 8. Bond sales are used to cover the difference between what the govt collects from taxation and what it spends, aka the deficit. But it's not obliged to do so. 9. The Bank of England, which is owned by the gov, holds around 30% of all govt bonds. So the govt periodically goes through the charade of selling bonds to itself. It's an illusion that was used during the covid crisis. 10. So the bond markets are not all powerful as was implied by Messrs Campbell and Stewart. In fact, the power resides with the govt.

No, just spend the money you need on housing and you will benefit the economy in the process. If you want to use pension funds in this way, start writing the legislation to achieve it, but be aware it’s not necessary.
Neil Duncan-Jordan MP@NeilForPoole

There’s £3 TRILLION in UK pension funds. We need Progressive Pensions so this money works for the people whose payslips fund it. Investments should reflect our priorities - not fossil fuels or firms complicit in war crimes. Let’s invest in the council housing people need.

Becky I'm curious. Do you always celebrate war crimes, torture, rape, genocide and the ethnic cleansing and mass slaughter of your fellow human beings in this sort of language? Or are you just monstrous when it comes to the Palestinians?
Becky With The Good Hair@BeckyJohnson222

@DalrympleWill Yup. The Israeli people are not f*cking around! They've got their shit together and are kicking ass! Gaza will not be the same anymore. No more "mowing the grass." Time to plow the field. #Israel

@buzhna @bankofengland @Keir_Starmer @RachelReevesMP It’s odd that politicians appear to “believe” that taxation funds public spending, & that this isn’t challenged in the media. It seems they think (a) the general population is incapable of understanding public money creation & (b) it serves their agenda to promote this narrative.

This is the most important economics paper of modern times. It proves definitively that UK public expenditure consists solely of money newly created @BankofEngland. No longer can @Keir_Starmer @RachelReevesMP pretend funding new public services requires taxation or borrowing

@heinz_kiosk @premnsikka So I am not necessarily advocating “more” spending but want an NHS designed to deliver health and service based on agreed need and on models of care that work for the population and not for profit.

@heinz_kiosk @premnsikka Bear in mind that the costs of the internal market- including the endless handoffs across commercial interfaces- is variously estimated between 5 and 14%. Not to mention the costs of so-called “choice”. #reinstatetheNHS

UK Govt to kick off public-private partnerships in England. It is new name for Private Finance Initiative. Private sector invests £1, gets £6+ back. The state guarantees profits. Nothing learnt? Govt can create money, borrow, do QE, tax the rich theguardian.com/politics/2025/…

@heinz_kiosk @premnsikka That is for the people and their government to determine. UK health spending is half of that (per capita) than the US insurance based system, and the latter has worse outcomes. A publicly funded and provided service based on need is a superior arrangement in every respect.

@VoteEsther @premnsikka How much money would be enough for the NHS? NHS spending inherited by this government was already at record levels, both in absolute terms (real terms spending corrected for inflation), and as a percentage of GDP. (12%)

Not only CAN it spend into the economy to deliver on its objectives, it should do so now to terminate the huge hit to public services which is making all our lives miserable. Reeves' policies are crippling the economy. She has totally sold out to neoliberalism and all its evils.
The Forensic Socialist@VoteEsther

@premnsikka The government can (because we are have a fiat currency economy with robust tax mechanisms and a functioning tax system) spend into the economy as it requires to deliver on its objectives- including the delivery of an effective NHS.

What on earth is this idea of attracting money from the private sector about? That money comes with a price tag; public spending does not.
The Forensic Socialist@VoteEsther

@premnsikka The very last thing it should do is pretend that it has no money and that it therefore needs to enter into arrangements to attract funding from the private sector.

@premnsikka Not only is this entirely unnecessary, but it creates profit opportunity and motive where this is not what public service is for. Please join @SocialistHealth to campaign to reinstate the NHS as a publicly funded and provided service meeting the health needs of the population.
