I've literally been reading racists right-wingers (notably Samuel Francis and Pat Buchanan) since Yglesias was in kindergarten. It's a big part of the work I do. Yet I somehow manage to avoid praising them as interesting parts of the discourse even as analyze their work.

@gina_scooter By the movie's own admission, Oppenheimer is not notable for theorizing black holes or being responsible for any particular novel breakthrough in atomic research. He's notable exclusively for managing a project that brought the A Bomb to life in time to commit war crimes.

This is silly, but also historically false as a matter of fact. 20 states granted the franchise to women b4 1920. & restrictions have to be understood w/I the context of others, eg based on property holding (ofc race too, but that’s the one historical fact the left seems to know)

I do not believe women, as a class, have ever been “oppressed” in America. Oppressor-oppressed is an impoverished way to view the codependent relationship between the sexes that completely dispenses with any notion of feminine power.

It was about the concept presented: if a man can step into the shoes of a woman for categorization purposes, why can Rachel not step into her own shoes and be considered a black woman for any similar designation?
