Depending where you draw the line, Roman civilization lasted over 2,200 years.
753 - 509 BC -- Kingdom
509 - 27 BC -- Republic
27 BC - 476 AD -- Empire
476 - 1453 AD --Eastern/Byzantine Empire
That is an insane amount of history. The Rome of 753 BC wouldn't recognize the Rome of 27 BC...let alone the Rome of 1453 AD.
No civilization reinvented itself more.

We all understand America was a different country in 1825 than it is today. But people tend to think of Rome in 100BC and 100AD as basically the same place. History compresses in our heads. Ancient history even more so.

I would like some book recommendations pls.
I'm pretty open to most genres, but I usually preference historical fiction and crime.
I read The Silent Patient recently and REALLY enjoyed it.
But, also loved the Pillars of the Earth series, the Bronze Horseman, anything by Bryce Courtenay etc.
Fantasy-esque fiction is fine if it's GoT style. But if you recommend shit like "a court of thorns and roses" I will kick you in the shins, bc that shit is gay. ❤️
