When last surveyed, less than 1 in 7 people in state prisons with a diagnosed mental disorder said they were currently receiving therapy or counseling. Are these the same prisons that claim to be "rehabilitating" people through incarceration?

Deaths in state prisons from drug or alcohol intoxication rose >600% from 2001-2019. But addiction treatment is still only sporadically available in the nation’s prisons & jails. FCM’s Dr. Shira Shavit @_Transitions discussed the issue with the NYT. nytimes.com/2023/08/09/us/…

With @networkforphl, we wrote a policy brief about the legal barriers that make it difficult to hire formerly incarcerated people as community health workers (CHWs). CHWs with lived experience can effectively improve health outcomes for the reentry population.
