One of the moments that made Love and Deepspace truly special to me was discovering Rafayel reading a book written in my native language. As a Polish player, discovering that detail brought me so much joy. It made me smile and reminded me that this game reaches far beyond its country of origin, bringing us together through storytelling, art, and culture. That is something I will always appreciate. Valko was never created to take another character's place. He was meant to become part of the same family. The title of this game begins with Love. So why shouldn't we be free to love every character its creators choose to bring into this world? Caleb and Sylus also faced skepticism when they first appeared. Many players needed time before they embraced them. The difference is that they were given the opportunity to tell their stories. Players got to know their personalities, watched their stories unfold, and formed their own opinions. Today, many of those early critics have become devoted fans. Valko never received that opportunity. The sadness I feel isn't because he was already my favorite. It's because someone else decided I would never have the chance to discover whether he could become one. That decision should have belonged to each individual player. Instead, it was overshadowed by hostility, misinformation, and conclusions drawn before anyone had the chance to experience his story firsthand. As Miss Hunters, we all know what it feels like to become attached to a fictional character. We celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, new chapters, and small interactions because they make these characters feel alive. We spend months waiting for a single memory, a few minutes of story, one meaningful conversation, or even a single new piece of lore—just to learn a little more about the characters we love. So why were the players waiting for Valko never given the same chance? My heart also goes out to every writer, artist, animator, designer, programmer, and voice actor whose work may never be experienced by the players it was created for. To me, Love and Deepspace has become more than a game. It has become a bridge connecting Chinese culture with players around the world. It introduced many of us to Chinese literature, traditions, music, architecture, mythology, festivals, and language. It inspired people to learn, to create fan art, to write stories, to translate content, and to make friends across countries that they might never have met otherwise. Stories deserve to be experienced from beginning to end—not reduced to fragments, assumptions, or fear. We don't need to love the same character. We simply deserve the freedom to choose for ourselves. I still care deeply about Love and Deepspace, and I remain grateful for everything it has done to connect people across cultures.
