@RnaudBertrand 2/2 Glucksmann is highly problematic in many areas, but the use of the word "enemy" here seems fair: I'm sure even Melenchon would describe it similarly. Europe needs to close the door and create its own tech infrastructure and ban US tech, a lesson China learned long ago.

Typically the best way to win any competition - or anything really - isn't by complaining about or demonizing others, but by improving yourself. I've been an activist for France and European sovereignty for over 10 years and have written literally hundreds of times on the dangers of dependency on US tech. So there is no debate on my side that this is a major problem. But seeing demonization as a solution is very unhelpful: when you are this backward technologically you cannot reinvent the wheel, you actually have to learn from others in order to compete. It's like if you're a restaurant that can't get customers, you can declare the Michelin-starred place across the street an enemy all you like, it doesn't change shit. Maybe you should go over there and learn why they're so successful 🤷

If you wanted yet another proof that Raphaël Glucksmann is one of the most corrosively stupid politicians in Europe - quite a high bar to reach - please watch this. He says that France and Europe's enemies "have a name and a face, they're called Elon Musk, Sam Altman and Zhang Yiming [the founder of Bytedance]": in other words all the successful tech entrepreneurs out there who aren't European. I literally cannot think of a stupider way to frame the issue of Europe's competitiveness: literally like a team that hasn't won a match in years declaring the league champions enemies of football. Bear in mind this guy is, unfortunately, one of the lead candidates for the next presidential elections. Hard to get worse than Macron, but in his case he absolutely would be: basically all of Macron's worst instincts but with the IQ and charisma of a parking meter.

@RnaudBertrand They are successful because most of the venture capital out there funding the next winners in tech is all in Silicon Valley, it's not that American tech engineers are Michelin star geniuses, don't be so charitable to them, they don't deserve it. 1/2

@Sai_Ishaya_ The geographical size of London is a reflection of really poor urban density and poor urban planning. It takes forever to get anywhere, and the low density means the housing stock is severely lacking for what the city needs. London is inferior to most European cities.

London is not tiny, it's one of the biggest cities in the world. It's the largest city in Western Europe & is geographically 14x the size of Paris. Each of the subregions can be standalone cities on their own. -South London is Physically larger than Madrid, Chicago or Toronto. -East London is bigger than Munich & Dublin combined. -West London is nearly triple the size of Paris. -North London is bigger than Amsterdam and Copenhagen combined.
