@_deezonee_ @alfiecoulson08 @MeiaArmador__ There’s been plenty of times this season Raya has opted to kick it long when Arteta set the team up with build up solutions. Man City away is an example.

The issue with Arsenal’s approach wasn’t that they decided to remain zonal rather than press man-to-man like Bayern in settled sequences. That was actually the best strategic decision Arteta made and ultimately got the game to penalties. The concern was the severe lack of solutions in deep buildup, where Arsenal repeatedly went long despite having a numerical overload. Even if you want to go long, doing so when you have an overload in buildup means you will have numerical inferiority against the PSG defensive line, essentially making it a lot less effective. It would have made much more sense for Arsenal to play a few short passes to bait the pressure, allow PSG to commit touch-tight in a man-to-man situation, and then go long into numerical parity rather than inferiority. Arsenal were about as good as it is practically possible to be out-of-possession, but there was nothing substantial in-possession. It is something Arsenal have consistently struggled with throughout the season in the bigger games. There is a severe lack of deep buildup solutions, whether against man-to-man or zonal presses. There are great examples such as Rennes, Monaco, and Chelsea under Maresca, teams with less quality than Arsenal, that threatened PSG far more through their buildup solutions while maintaining out-of-possession solidity, and ultimately managed to beat them.

@_deezonee_ @horlamason @Chels1an The handful of games Enzo has had in the pivot this season regardless of who plays beside him, he has ALWAYS been the standout in midfield in those games… We either find a different usage for Caicedo, but if we insist on a sitting 6 then we have to subtly replace him

@horlamason @dabana_ogo @Chels1an I always preferred Palmer in the free role running the game, but he doesnt look the same anymore so inverted RW is probably best for now for him. If we're looking for a Gusto upgrade Wesley Franca is a good option as that RB/RWB option

@_deezonee_ @dabana_ogo @Chels1an We can actually use Palmer as inverted RW with a very good RB overlap. Use a 3 man midfielder. What the likes of Enzo, vitinha gives on the ball is rare, we can't lose it because we must play plamer in midfield

The way the coaches we have are utilising the midfield is what's hurting both Caicedo and Enzo, Enzo should be the DLP and Caicedo should be used as Neves then another midfielder, not Palmer..........

@dabana_ogo @horlamason @Chels1an Never said that. They don't compliment each other so they shouldn't play in a pivot, but in the midfield 3 with a different pivot partner to Caicedo works. Lavia, Caicedo, Enzo would probably work very well if Lavia wasn't constantly injured.

@dabana_ogo @Chels1an Its not about outperforming whoever is in the pivot, but making them better. Just like Vitinha and Neves compliment each other - Caicedo and Enzo don't. My point is he can not do what Vitinha does in the pivot, I have not moved any goalpost - he cannot

@_deezonee_ @Chels1an I listed games where he played in the pivot btw… He outperformed whoever he was paired with in the pivots. And yeah, I listed his best games from this season alone… Now you’re shifting the goal post 😂😂…. That Manchester United game, a better game than Vitinha last night 😅
