Do the work, do the research. Coaches preach “fit”, but you need to know if they actually have a plan where you fit into how the develop.

Athletes, you need to look harder than just numbers, but what different types of players are having success. If you see a wide range of player profiles seeing jumps or posting numbers there is a good chance that school knows how to develop more than one or two things.

Daily Q/A: How to tell if a college program will actually develop me? In today’s recruiting climate where almost every college claims they “prioritize development” in the recruiting process. Some even give examples of success stories in the past. The answer is in the details.

Daily Q/A: What’s the “kinetic chain” and why does it matter for pitchers? The kinetic chain is how your body links and transfers energy up the body (legs, hips, torso, arm) to throw a pitch. It’s the engine of the pitch. Energy flows from the ground to the ball, like a whip.

Daily Q/A: "What is a common reason for hitting a plateau?" A common theme we see in athletes plateauing is simple, they are not recovering well enough. In training it is more common to not be reaching Supercompensation due to lack of recovery then not working hard enough.

Changing an arsenal or tweaking a pitch should always come from answering two questions, "How do I currently get outs?" And "Where am I leaving outs on the table?" Following the vast trail of information from answering those questions will give pitchers a better understanding of their identity. Which is the actual point. We need an understanding of identity to know where the change/tweak is needed. Not all pitchers need to chase IVB and not every gyro slider needs to become a sweeper. Context matters...

Without diving into context I wonder how many coaches would change something or more? Probably doesn’t fit into a mechanical checklist.

Make changes with as little cueing as possible. Of course we make sure guys are doing exercises correctly, but many times less is more. The assessment process gives us puzzle pieces, put them together and program change. Create athletic freedom!

Different is the Value Something that separates elite pitchers from average is they look at adjustments (mechanics, pitch arsenals, sequencing, etc.) from a goal to maximize their competitive advantage. Look through the lens of what sets you apart. Don’t just chase a trend.
