Bilal ibn Rabah was one of the freed black slaves who later became one of the closest and most prominent figures to the Prophet Muhammad.

But they're the ones that stopped slavery while the Muslims continued it. All of Muhammad's people (his wives, and Muhammad himself) owned many slaves - males and females. In his campaign against the children of Qurayza (the Jewish tribe), Muhammad killed all the males (700-900) in one day. Then, he divided the women and the children among his people.
