@sealpenguin4 @Blarfk @MichaelBeck56 Nope. Teams that are still playing cannot interview coaches under contract with another team during the Wild Card week window. The Steelers would have had to wait until after the Super Bowl to interview Kubiak.

@ASaunders_PGH @Blarfk @MichaelBeck56 Yeah I’m doubting that after a near 2 month NFL gap. Teams are allowed to interview coaches before their season ends and considering the Steelers literally fired their OC midseason, they had no reason to not be doing that.

@sealpenguin4 @Blarfk @MichaelBeck56 That might not have necessarily been public knowledge at the time. But he had already interviewed with the Saints, and he signed with them about 12 hours after the 49ers lost in the Super Bowl, before anyone else could have possibly interviewed him.

Almost 2 months to sign him. Why would Brook write an article with BOTH Smith and Kubiak if they weren’t BOTH available?

I wouldn't necessarily expect him to be a lot better than middle of the pack again this year. But there's no reason to think he's going to fall off a cliff, either. Sure, he'll physically regress at least some. But with better weapons and a more QB/passing-friendly offense, that should largely be mitigated.
