We never should have dropped the atomic bombs. Out of all eight 5-star army & navy officers in 1945, SEVEN were against it. Gen. Eisenhower stated that Japan was already defeated & the bomb was "completely unnecessary" Gen. MacArthur said Japan would have surrendered in weeks without the bomb Gen. Arnold stated that conventional bombing was already destroying Japan Adm. Leahy called the weapon "barbarous" & of "no material assistance" Adm. Nimitz argued the naval blockade made it unnecessary Adm. King also said the blockade was sufficient Adm. Halsey likewise held that the blockade was enough to force a surrender Bishop Fulton Sheen is right.
French television did what French television does: it held up a mirror. On LCI, the split screen arrived. Right side: Trump at a rally, arms swinging, hips swaying, the Village People pumping through the speakers as the crowd roared. Left side: oil fields somewhere in the Middle East, burning. I don't believe what oil prices are doing and neither should you.
For oil, the panic buying so far on Monday has been concentrated in Japan and South Korea. China (and, to some extent, India) are reacting more calmly. Of course, both have access to millions of barrels in floating storage from both Russia and Iran, which makes a big difference.
