After almost 8 years, my time at Epic Games has come to an unexpected end. It’s hard to put into words what an incredible journey it has been, but I’ll try in this 🧵

As a UEFN Creator who strives for the best quality maps, we do not want these maps in the ecosystem. Way too many of them, and 9 times out of 10 are mainly made for a quick buck. I notice a ton that actual QUALITY maps are buried beneath the giant desert we call Discover.

Seeing the Epic/Fortnite layoffs today in the gaming industry and my heart goes out to everyone affected. I’ve been there before from 2024 Xbox layoffs, even with good performance reviews and colleagues who valued my work. Some tips: -File for unemployment immediately even if you have severance. It wont kick in due to severance, but this get your details in the system now so you don’t miss payments when severance ends. -Max out your 401k on your final paychecks if you can. -Use every last bit of your health insurance before it’s gone. -Apply for local SNAP benefits if you meet the requirements. You get money for groceries and the card gets you 50% off Amazon Prime and free entry to museums and parks. Look up any state and city specific programs that provides unemployment assistance. I was able to find city job offers and training opportunities. -Immediately update LinkedIn to “open to work” as a public or private toggle so recruiters can find you. Load your job history with keywords for roles you’re targeting. -Find community. There could be Discord, Slack, and Facebook groups out there for your domain/company.
