So no, ‘blackwashing’ doesn’t carry the same impact or implications as whitewashing. At the end of the day, it isn’t inherently wrong to change a character’s race in fiction as long as it doesn’t affect their story.

A lot of people treat ‘blackwashing’ as if it’s the same as whitewashing, but that comparison doesn’t actually hold up. A common misunderstanding is that both terms just mean ‘changing a character’s race’. That sounds simple, but it’s not what those concepts actually represent.🧵
