Interesting pattern.
First the Australian High Commissioner in Pakistan promotes the idea of an "ancient Pakistan." Now the UK announces a Cultural Protection Fund for Pakistan's heritage.
Pakistan was created in 1947 on a religious basis. The Indus Valley and other pre-Islamic civilizational heritage long predate the Pakistani state.
When foreign diplomats and funding increasingly frame these ancient sites as evidence of a timeless Pakistani civilization, it's fair to ask what historical narrative is being encouraged and at whose expense.
History deserves preservation, not political rebranding.

The Indus Valley Civilization didn’t “go extinct.” Archaeology shows population continuity. Genetics shows ancestry continuity. Culture shows continuity. Cities like Harappa declined, but the people remained, migrated, adapted, and became part of the civilization we now call India. 8,000 years later, the story continues. 🇮🇳
